Artist’s Statement

Anukul Chueamon, received his Bachelor’s Degree from the Depart of Fine Arts, King Monkut Institute of Technology Lard Krabang (KMITL).  He started to develop his own unique expression towards the end of his time as a college student.  His personal expression became clearer and stronger upon his graduation.  Most of his works are in the form of video performances, narrating and creating an imaginary world through his perspectives.  His works deal with personal relationships and the spatial relationships between objects in his household and the members of his family.

Exhibition’s Statement

Anukul returns to the art scene with “Exiting the Vampire Castle”.   His unique and creative artistic expression is still evident in his video performance work--his views and perceptions on space and objects in his house and how he uses household objects in symbolic ways. Many objects have been in his house for a long time and have become parts of his valuable memories.  Some objects have played an important role as emotional stabilizers for his family members.  The values and attachments to these household objects increased with the amount of time they have been in his house.

It is hard for him to throw these objects away or turn them into money.  He fears that he would miss them and that the characteristic of his family members would become different without them.  Because of this, there’s a lack of space for usage as well as a lack of pleasing environment that positively impacts the souls.

“Exiting the Vampire Castle” brings household objects in his memories to the forefront, while at the same time creating an atmosphere that reflects his family’s needs through imaginary work as a video performance. He refers to the immortality of the memories of the objects as an immortal vampire…and imagines his house as a vampire’s Castle.
